With the REVISE project, TERC and a team of Blind/Low Vision and Deaf/Hard of Hearing Interest Group (IT) Members developed the Adventures in Infrared Astronomy Video as an example of an accessible informal science event. It is intended to provide examples of some of the strategies integrated into the Blind/Low Vision and Deaf/Hard of Hearing Accessibility Guidelines that was also developed by the IT team. This work was funded in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
The event highlighted in the video was held at the historic Yerkes Observatry on September 24, 2024. This multi-sensory, hands-on event for blind/low vision and deaf/hard of hearing students was conducted by GLAS Education, a nonprofit specializing in accessible STEM outreach, conducted Adventures in Infrared Astronomy. The program was developed in cooperation with science educators and with financial support from the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium.
