The Handheld Signing Math & Science Dictionaries for Deaf
and Hard of Hearing Museum Visitors Research Project
This video clip shows a hearing mother and her deaf daughter at the "Seeing Heat" activity. The mother uses the Word List to identify a term and then prompts her daughter to look up the term in the dictionaries. The mother takes the child's iPod and locates the term for her. They watch the signed definition together. The mother then points to the activity and connects what they have learned about the term to the activity.
Dictionary Use: The family watches a signed term and definition to learn the sign and meaning of a term. One of the parents uses what they have learned to explain something to the child about the activity.
