The Handheld Signing Math & Science Dictionaries for Deaf
and Hard of Hearing Museum Visitors Research Project
This video clip shows a hearing mother and her two hard of hearing daughters doing the "How Long is a Minute?" activity. The mother is showing the children how to use the iPod to look up the term sixty in the SMD. She shows them the screen on which the Avatar is signing the term and then demonstrates the sign to them. Then she shows the children how to adjust the speed of the signing and explains that sixty is a noun.
Dictionary Use: The family watches the term being signed. The parent uses the information to explain something to the children about the term.
